Want a Halloween decor project that will give you a lot of spooky bang for very little buck? Today I’m going to create Bloody Candles using thrift store candlesticks and Dollar Store candles.
Last year I tried the bloody candle trick using empty wine bottles as candle holders. It looked okay in the end, but it was a serious pain in the ass to make. Tapers are too fat to fit into wine bottles, so I had to shave the bases down, which sucked AND made them kind of wobbly.
This year, I decided to collect thrift store candlesticks and paint them black. I lucked out and found 8 candlesticks for $2.49 each that had a classic spooky vibe, except that someone had painted them from black to gold. And the gold was peeling off.
Back to black they went.
Much better.
I grabbed some cheap red and white tapers from the Dollar Store and dripped the red candle wax over the white.
Very Phantom of the Opera-ish, don’t you think?
I had a few odd pillars around that I gave the same treatment.
Fast, easy and cheap…my favorite kind of project. I’m in the home stretch of prepping for my client’s party this weekend, so I’ve got a few more fun projects up my sleeve this week.
In case you missed it, last week I made DIY Potion Bottles out of empty bourbon bottles using PicMonkey.
I’m linking my Bloody Candles up at some terrific blog parties – you can find my complete list of places I party HERE
